Appendix T - Technical Information

BlueChromis Files

BlueChromis is a true data base management system. Its data files and many of its programs have either .LK or .OV file extensions. DO NOT COPY, MOVE, DELETE OR EDIT THESE FILES. BlueChromis has a backup feature that will copy data files and settings to any backup directory you choose.

Some .LK and .OV files have a file size of zero. DO NOT DELETE THESE FILES. They are necessary. We suggest that you set any file cleaning program that you may use to exclude "zero byte" files with these file extensions.

Performance

As data base management system, BlueChromis makes frequent use of the hard disk. The faster your hard drive, the better its performance will be. A solid state drive (SSD) will result in the best performance.

If you have large amounts of data and you experience a slow down in load time for the Activities Register, choosing a more narrow date range will improve this. For example, if you are loading all your data for the past 5 years, try loading only the last 12 months, or last 6 months of data.

We recommend that your antivirus program be set to exclude from "On Access" scanning the BlueChromis program directory, as well as .LK and .OV file extensions. Constant scanning of files every time they are accessed may slow down the performance of BlueChromis.

Location of Aquarium Data Files and Settings

This information is stored under the user's My Documents directory. For Windows 7 this directory is:

     Users\UserName\My Documents\RainingSolutions\BlueChromis

directory, where UserName is your user name.

BlueChromis will never remove your aquarium's data files and settings, even if you uninstall the application. If you uninstall BlusChromis and you wish to remove your aquarium's data files, you will have to delete the RainingSolutions\BlueChromis folder manually.
